Places to Go Rock Climbing in Utah

Utah is a natural playground for adventurers. There's endless hiking trails, rivers that run through canyons with epic rapids, and plenty of cliffs that are ideal for rock climbing. At Parry Lodge, many of our guests are novice thrill seekers and experienced adventurers. For those who are interested in rock climbing while staying in Kanab, we always recommend the following places:

The Sandstone Cliffs at Zion National Park

Many of the visitors at Zion National Park stand in awe at the sandstone cliffs that tower more than 2,000 feet in the air. Not only are they pretty to look at, but they also provide experienced rock climbers with the adventure of a lifetime. Avoid climbing these cliffs when the rocks are wet, as the sandstone can weaken. Generally, the best time to climb these cliffs is during the late spring and early fall.

Kanab Creek Crag

Located in Kanab, the Kanab Creek Crag is the ideal rock climbing location for those who are new to rock climbing and those who are more experienced. There are five distinct climbing routes on this 100-foot crag. Four of the routes on this crag have hardware set into the rock, which helps out those who are new to rock climbing. Additional trees and boulders can be used for mounting while completing the climb.

Bryce Canyon National Park

Just less than an hour-and-a-half drive from Kanab, Bryce Canyon National Park is one of the closest places to go for endless rock climbing opportunities. There are many different locations within the park where visitors can experience the sport of rock climbing, and there are even guided tours available for those prefer extra assistance. Rock climbing, canyoneering and rappelling are a few of the favorite pastimes of those who frequently visit this majestic national park in Utah.

When you stay at Parry Lodge, your entire backyard is the rugged wilds of southern Utah. Not only are we conveniently situated in the heart of Kanab, but our lodge is just a short drive from the best national parks in the American West.
